Vintage photography book.

Horst P. Horst, as one of the international master photographers, contributed to the formation of modern fashion photography and portrait photography. Born in Weissenfels near Weimar in 1906, Horst developed his sensibility in response to the major avant-garde movements of the 1920s, namely Bauhaus, Neue Sachlichkeit, and Art Deco, and the social climate of the 1930s. Here, the legendary George Hoyningen-Huene (a Baltic aristocrat and photographer for Vogue) introduced him to the fashionable social circles of artists, actors, couturiers, aristocrats, and intellectuals.

Horst joined Vogue in 1935, succeeding Hoyningen-Huene, and quickly became world-famous. His luxurious fashion plates, exquisite still lifes and nudes, and, above all, portraits of prominent figures such as Gertrude Stein, Jean Cocteau, and Coco Chanel gained him renown. By the time he left France in 1939, Horst was already one of Vogue's elite photographers.

Vogue is his magazine in all its transitions. He has continued to take photographs for its pages and for its sister publication, House & Garden, from the 1930s to the present day. Everything is included in his grand portfolio, which captivated him, including Paris fashion shows, palaces and mansions of high society, and international dignitaries, incorporating foreign studies that particularly impressed Iran.

This magnificently produced monograph brings together the most outstanding images from Horst's 60-year career.

229 illustrations, including 39 in color and 164 in duotone.
